Aalsmeer, Netherlands based technical solutions and rental company Eventec has recently invested in Robe moving lights to service their busy schedule which includes being the preferred technical production supplier throughout the Crown Business Studios (CBS) in picturesque Aalsmeer – also known as the ‘Flower Capital of the World’ after the town’s largest industry.
The Crown Business Studios is a 65,000 square metre multi-entertainment complex with 12 individual spaces used for TV productions, events, rehearsals, etc. 11 of which are managed by Eventec and United Broadcast Facilities.
CBS was re-opened in 2010 under new ownership and after a complete refurbishment.
Eventec’s Wijnand Mol explains that Eventec decided to invest in Robe this summer as they were looking for new – and the latest and the best - LED fixtures. Initially they were recommended to check out Robe by lighting designer Christian Ros from Light Language.
A demo and a shoot-out followed from Controllux, Robe’s Benelux distributor, after which Eventec made the decision to purchase initially 16 x ROBIN LEDWash 300s.
Two weeks later, they added ROBIN LEDBeam100s to their stock, some of which are installed semi-permanently in a popular dinner / entertainment show running for most of the year in CBS Studio 6.
The LEDWash 300s were in Studio 1 this autumn, helping to light the latest series of ‘So You Think You Can Dance?’ which was broadcast simultaneously in Holland and Belgium complete with a live studio audience of 1,200.
For the final, the Robe-count was upped with three ROBIN MMX WashBeams, four ROBIN MMX Spots and 24 x ROBIN LEDBeam 100s. Six MMX WashBeams were also used on a special video shoot that introduced all the finalists.
The show’s Lighting Designer Henk-Jan van Beek from Light-H-Art is a leading European TV LD, and this is also the first time he has used Robe on one of his shows.
The 16 LEDWash 300s are positioned behind a large arched window which is a prominent feature of the fabulous proto-industrial set designed by Ronald van de Besselaar.
Their smooth and dynamic colour mixing and even wash coverage were exactly the features that Henk-Jan was looking for in this context. There are also four LEDBeam 100s on pillars each side of the stage, used for sharp mega-bright beam effects and accents.
From a rental perspective explains Wijnand, they were attracted to the LEDWashes as a multi-purpose fixture and for their reliability and value for money. The light weight - 8.2 Kgs – is also a great bonus, together with the fact that – like the tiny but super-bright LEDBeam100 - they can be squeezed into all sorts of places on a rig - and easily fill holes in camera shots in TV applications.
The individual ring control is also a very unique feature which creates ideal camera-candy for TV.
